I’m not a fan of this kind of film, but this one I really liked. You know:, „someone’s taste is someone’s taste and vice-versa“, like I usually say to my friends 🙂

I’m glad to read your opinion. From my part, I feel that I need only to say:

1. In fact, I’m a Nicolas Cage fan 😉

2. It’s not my all-time favorite movie, but it’s not that bad.

3. In my opinion, the film may not be literal biblical description of the end of time but, like I shared with you, this didn’t prevent me to think about some good questions.

I don’t have the knowledge to recognize if this movie has, for example, „new age“ elements, or stuff like that, and for sure it’d be good to be aware of that. I think this movie may lead also to an „ufological“ interpretation, and I don’t like at all to mix the Bible with Ufology, although I recognize that angels are „extraterrestrials“ beings only because their are „inteligent non-human beings“ 🙂

In any case, the reflections remained for me.

wenn das einer der schlechtesten Filme der letzten Jahre war, müssten ja die Filme (völlig an mir vorbei) in der letzten Zeit extrem gut geworden sein.

Nein, nein, das sehe ich anders. Es ist kein großer Film. Aber es ist ein recht guter Film. 😉

Meine Frau und ich mögen Thriller, gern auch Mystery, und meine Frau mag manchmal sogar Nicolas Cage 🙂 … Der Film startet mit einer interessanten Grundidee und bringt eine Menge spannender Fragen ein.

Leider gehen diese vielversprechenden Ansätze unter in logischen Löchern, so groß, dass sie das Universum verschlucken könnten, manche interessante Spuren enden einfach im Nichts, und dazu kommt der von dir erwähnte Kitsch (wer erinnert sich an Cage in „Stadt der Engel“?), die unvermeidliche New-Age-Ästhetik – und die Obsession der Filmemacher mit ihren (eindrucksvollen) Special Effects.

Im Kino machte sich gegen Ende Ratlosigkeit breit – auch bei uns. Die hatte aber nichts mit den theologischen / philosophischen Fragestellungen zu tun.

ich würde den Film erst ab 16 Jahre freigeben, da er an einigen Stellen doch recht hart ist (z.B. Flugzeugabsturz). Aber wenn Dein Sohn Thriller kennt, wird es vielleicht gehen. Anknüpfungspunkte zum Gespräch bietet er viele.

What’s the „role“ of the Prophecy? Isn’t it to show that there’s an order in the Universe, „something“ behind it controlling the fate of things, instead of Randomness?

What happens in a „end of world“ time? How people deal with it? With mercy and love? Isn’t it the time that the weakness of our human society and the fragility of our justice appears the most? Isn’t it the time that humans show their true evil nature?

Are we truly prepared for the Second Coming of our Lord?

These are some of the questions that came up for me after watching this movie. Pay attention though: 1) it’s not a „christian“ movie, with a literal description of the Second Coming; and 2) it’s a thriller, that means suspense adventure.
