Im Jahr 2005 erschien in der Zeitschrift Australian Presbyterian ein Interview mit Ligon Duncan über die Rechtfertigungslehre. Duncan betont den Aspekt der Anrechnung einer fremden Gerechtigkeit. Wer glaubt, wird nicht durch etwas in ihm oder seine Taten gerechtfertigt, sondern durch die Anrechnung dessen, was Christus für uns getan hat.
Now Paul takes this word »justify«, which means to »declare someone righteons«, and he goes on to say that we have been justified, that is, declared to be »not guilty« as a gift by God’s grace through the redemption which is in Jesus Christ. And so Paul, in Romans 3:24, makes it clear that the basis of our being declared not guilty is not to be found in us; instead, we are »justified« because of the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. The gift of being declared accepted by God is not based on something in us or in something that we do; rather, it is based on something which God has done in Jesus Christ. And that’s good news! We have someone else who has accomplished our salvation.
